We need money. We all need money . Or at least that’s what a lot of us think. A very large majority. It’s a phrase we often hear, but we all tend to forget it: money is not an end in itself. It is an engine, a fuel. In today’s society, it is often put at the center of everything. But let us remember that it is only a means. One way among many others. On the menu today, I therefore offer you a slightly different article, on what drives us, day after day, to always want more.
Basically, a feature article. Even if I find the expression a bit pretentious…
The first reason why money is necessary for us is the most basic: to meet our needs. Specifically to our physiological needs, including hunger and thirst. We need money to feed ourselves. I won’t go into the debate, but the capitalist world today is like that. Certainly, there are alternative solutions, which would undoubtedly deserve to be further explored. But that is not the subject of this article.
To these initial needs, I will add the need for security. Indeed, having a roof for yourself and your family is also one of the imponderables. To those who want to know more about the different types of needs governing the human being and therefore each of us, I invite you to learn about Maslow’s pyramid. Even if the vision she proposes is undoubtedly to be adapted, it is undoubtedly something to always keep in a corner of her head.
In a sentence, today money allows us to eat, to sleep warm and to afford a roof . And that’s not bad! 🙂
But life would be very dull if we were content only to satisfy our needs. Each of us has desires, for him and/or for his loved ones.
Want to offer a trip to the whole family? Whether it is to relax or to discover new landscapes, traveling more often is certainly something that many would like to achieve. Traveling to meet new cultures, new ways of thinking. Unfortunately, we probably do it much less than we would like. See we don’t do it at all. The main culprit? The lack of money, very often. The lack of time also you will tell me? No doubt, but we are running out of time because our job takes up all our days . And our job serves us to … Earn money. The circle is complete.
Your child’s birthday is fast approaching and he wants the latest fashionable toy. You want to offer your couple a romantic evening. You want to buy a new computer, the current one showing signs of weakness. And the latest MacBook catches your eye? 🙂 These are all desires and reasons why we need money.
Lately, I admit that I will treat myself to a new laptop… 😉
Finally, resorting to the currency goddess can be a necessary step in achieving your dreams . Do you want to leave everything behind, drop everything and go live on another continent? No doubt the money will be of great help to you. Do you want to help your neighbour , in France or elsewhere? Here again, money will be a powerful lever. Even if your own actions can also have a positive influence on some who have been less fortunate than us.
Whatever your plans, it is almost certain that the few coins and notes sleeping on your booklet A or under your mattress will contribute to it. Either way. Directly or indirectly.
But keep in mind that money is ultimately just a bit of paper , a bit of metal and a lot of numbers. It’s just a convenient way to trade things, a modern form of barter. Don’t be afraid of it, don’t be ashamed of it. Use it to carry out your projects, personal or more global. Use it to realize yourself.
I will end this article on the need for money with a phrase that is a bit cliché, but which resonates as a truth today: no, money does not bring happiness. But it contributes to it, more or less directly.
On your side, how do you judge the money? What would you do if money weren’t a limiting factor?
