Do you know “THE” number of entrepreneurship?
4 out of 10 entrepreneurs were employed before starting a business.
Audrey Baillot, Sylvain Juliachs (Insee)
The year 2022 was prolific for business creation . Indeed, another year where more and more entrepreneurs were:
1,072,000 is the number of companies that were born in 2022. This is 2.1% more than in 2021, a year which was also a record at the time.
How is entrepreneurship defined?
Entrepreneurship is the act of undertaking and developing one’s own project. The person initiating this commitment is therefore called the “entrepreneur”.
There are different types of entrepreneurship , here is our selection of the 3 main ones:
- self-entrepreneurship
- Extrapreneurship
- Intrapreneurship
self-entrepreneurship
This form of entrepreneurship is the best known and the most represented. In addition, they were 653,920 to launch in 2022, i.e. 61% of new companies. How to explain the attractiveness of this status? Well, by the freedom it offers its entrepreneur. They can move towards various sectors of activity such as the liberal professions, crafts or trade.
This status is beneficial for several reasons. First of all, it encourages business creation because entrepreneurs benefit from a simplified tax and social security regime . In fact, the administrative procedures are less since it is only necessary to keep the book of receipts and purchases up to date.
In addition, since 02/14/2022, the principle of uniqueness of heritage no longer exists. This is an undeniable advantage, especially on these three points:
- The automatic separation of personal and professional assets (i.e. there is less administration)
- The entrepreneur’s personal assets are by default unseizable by professional creditors
- Only the elements necessary for the professional activity of the entrepreneur are seizable in the event of default
There are two conditions to keep this status, you must not exceed a certain turnover threshold :
- €176,200 excluding tax per year for the sale of goods, foodstuffs to take away or eat on site, as well as the supply of accommodation
- €72,600 excluding tax annually for all other services (freelancing for example)
Extrapreneurship
It is usually a group of employees who decide to start a separate legal entity from their original organization using the initial resources of their employer . There is therefore still a link with the “mother” structure since this new entity operates in the same sector of activity. However, unlike intrapreneurship, this group remains independent .
Employees therefore have the advantage of benefiting from the assistance of their employer. It is also a real advantage for companies that can test innovations while minimizing the risks, whether economic or marketing.
We know more fully in France the spin-off which is characterized by the help of an employer to take over a company. Employees can therefore have adjusted hours, technical assistance, logistical or even financial resources. It is estimated that at three years, the survival rate of these structures is about 85%.
Intrapreneurship
This mode of entrepreneurship is relatively close to the classic model except for one detail. It is internal to an organization because an employee puts his entrepreneurial qualities to the benefit of his “parent” company which does not belong to him. This makes it possible to create a flexible and agile structure which must develop projects internally. This concept was created in the 70 ‘s.
Here are some examples of companies that have implemented this strategy: La Poste, Michelin and Crédit Agricole.
As you can see, no sector is spared from intrapreneurship. But what are the benefits for organizations?
There are several, first of all that of retaining employees. The latter are in search of meaning in their work, it is in a way a need for belonging and recognition, notions that we find in the diagram of Maslow’s Pyramid . It’s a way for employees to share their ideas and gain more autonomy. Thus the company promotes the commitment and motivation of its employees at work, while maintaining projects that could be carried out outside the structure.
Some people have hidden talents that they dare not put forward for the benefit of entrepreneurship for fear of the risks associated with it. It is then that this mode of entrepreneurship makes sense because it makes it possible to secure the person (again a variable of Maslow’s Pyramid ) and therefore to take advantage of their qualities.
In addition, it is a way for the company to improve its employer image and thus attract ever more competent profiles .
Why get into entrepreneurship?
This field is the dream of a good number of employees. The latter are in search of freedom, but they are also motivated by challenge and adrenaline.
Acquire some prestige
If entrepreneurship is difficult, the resulting success can only be beneficial for an entrepreneur. Entrepreneurship is rather well seen socially and allows (in the best of cases) to obtain more substantial income.
However, be careful because it is a risky experience, the salary being lower in the first years.
become free
Despite the many hours of work that entrepreneurship entails, it offers flexibility as you can manage your schedule as you see fit. Where this pattern makes sense is in decision-making. In this sense, you are master of the ship when it comes to the strategic management of your structure. You can thus manage your project in the way you want, that is to say the way that suits you best.
Be careful though, because these decisions are conditioned by the (harsh) reality of the market or external stakeholders.
Giving meaning to your work
Daring to create your own business is a challenge , but it is above all a way to do what you want. In fact, you are better able to do what you hear. Entrepreneurship allows you to achieve independence , to feel socially useful and why not generate higher incomes and revolutionize the world .
Choose a job you love and you’ll never have to work a day in your life

Develop your creativity
Although it may not seem like a necessity at first glance, creativity is an absolutely useful quality for any leader . At first, to find the idea, but also to put it in place. Then, in a second step to promote its know-how and its assets to the general public. Note that it is sometimes necessary to obtain a spark of creativity to manage setbacks and find the best solution .
It is for all these reasons (and many others) that they are today more than 2 million feet in plaster or should I say feet in a beautiful Eldorado. The latter is also very different from that of Web 3, find here our article on this subject.
